Are You Giving Your Backyard A Distinctive Look?

Posted on: 2 July 2019

Is warm weather your favorite time of the year? Is that because you enjoy being out in nature? Does that enjoyment partially come from being in your own beautifully landscaped backyard? If that's the case, maybe you are considering giving the landscape a distinctive look. From using quarry stone to using statuary, here are some ideas that might help you.

Quarry Stone - Picture your backyard with beautifully shaped large stones as part of the landscape design. Select stone right from a quarry that sells stones specifically for landscaping purposes. Stones like coquina, granite, and marble sold in their natural state would add drama to your backyard landscaping. While it is true that any of these quarried stones might be more expensive than regular rocks, they will last for an extremely long time. Choose a combination of quarried stones to add even more interest to the landscape design.

For example, black granite next to white marble would provide dramatic contrast. Another idea is to select polished quarried stones among the rustic, unfinished ones. Arrange the stones in an artistic manner in different sections of your backyard. Then embellish them with pots of different sizes that will hold a combination of plants like succulents and assorted flowering plants. If there is enough space to add a man-made pond to the backyard, use quarried stones in the pond area, too.

Consider using smaller quarried stones as bedding plant borders. Combining them with bricks or cement will add interest to the bedding area, too.

Add Statues - Picture a combination of quarried stones with a statue as part of the design. For example, coquina stones with a large angel statue next to the stones would be an impressive sight, wouldn't it?  Small statues, say of small animals or of fairies, among the stones and plants would add charm to the backyard. For example, picture a small pot sitting atop a flat quarry stone. Now add a cute little bunny statue peeking from behind the plant and you will have created a very endearing scene.

The good thing about pots, stone quarry, and statues is that they are easy to maintain. In fact, if they need to be cleaned, you can just spray them with a garden hose. Of course, whichever plants you select will need attention. As you select plants, consider buying perennials so that you'll have them in next summer's garden, too.
