Why Should You Consider A Portable Hot Tub?

Posted on: 14 October 2022

If you're looking to add a hot tub to your home, you'll typically have three options:

  • In-ground
  • Portable (Above Ground)
  • Inflatable

While inflatable hot tubs are easily the most cost effective and accessible, most people looking to make a substantial upgrade to their home will consider the former two options. An in-ground hot tub can be an excellent choice if money isn't a concern, but portable hot tubs are a great alternative for many homeowners.

Put simply, a "portable" hot tub is equivalent to an above-ground pool. These hot tubs don't require permanent installation, although you shouldn't expect to be able to move them easily, either. If you aren't familiar with these units, here are three reasons to consider a portable hot tub to upgrade your home.

1. Long-Term Investment

If you're looking at pictures of portable hot tubs, you might think the name is a bit of a misnomer. These units are large and difficult to move, so why are they called "portable?" Since these units don't require a permanent installation, it's possible to relocate them or, more importantly, disconnect them and transport them between locations.

This latter point means that your hot tub can be a long-term investment that can even outlast your current home. If you're happy with the tub you purchase, you can take a portable hot tub with you, relocating it if you sell your home and move in the future. This advantage is also beneficial if you aren't planning on living in your current home for much longer.

2. Multiple Installation Options

Hot tubs require power for heating and water circulation. With an in-ground hot tub, your only option is to hardwire the tub into your home's electrical system. While this typically isn't an issue since in-ground hot tubs are permanent, it can increase your overall installation costs and lead to additional disruption to your home.

On the other hand, portable hot tubs typically come in hardwired and plug-and-play versions. The former requires wiring directly into your home's electrical system, similar to an in-ground tub. However, the latter will work with a standard electrical outlet. This ease of installation can be a huge benefit if you don't want to modify your home's wiring.

3. Lower Cost

Finally, there's no getting around the fact that portable hot tubs are cheaper than in-ground options. In-ground hot tubs are permanent additions to your home, with all the benefits and drawbacks that implies. An in-ground tub will cost more to purchase, install, and maintain over the long run. On the other hand, a portable hot tub will typically have much lower purchase and installation costs.

Adding a hot tub to your home is a great way to add a little fun and excitement, and there's no right choice for every home. However, portable hot tubs are worth considering if you want to add this great feature to your house without breaking the bank on an in-ground installation.
